The Movia estate founded in 1700 is a venerable witness to the permanent bond between land and family located along the picturesque border that unites the Italian and Slovenian sides in the Slovenian Brda.

At the heart of Movia's philosophy lies Aleš Kristančič's profound connection to wine, which he describes as an extension of his soul — a sentiment that encapsulates winemaker's commitment to creating wines that reflect the essence of their wine region.

The Movia family

In the realm of Movia, the boundaries between family and business blur, as each moment is lived with passion for winemaking that is both a mission and a way of life. The Kristančič family's dedication extends beyond the vineyard, aspiring to set the highest standards for quality and responsible wine consumption in Slovenia. This ethos is expressed in Movia wine shop in the heart of Ljubljana, where visitors can familiarize themselves with a selected selection of Movia natural and delicatessen wines.

Movia wines

Movia wines are known for their dynamic, authentic and charming character, they have exceeded the limits of Slovenia and won many international awards. This is how they became recognized as one of the best examples of European wine-growing culture. This excellence of Movia wines is achieved with traditional methods and with a deep respect for nature.

Under the leadership of Aleš and his successor Lan Kristančič, who represent the 8th and 9th generations, the Movia estate cultivates and creates Movia wines, on more than 22 hectares of land with an unwavering commitment to organic and biodynamic practices. This commitment is certified by the Kon-Cert Institute Maribor, Slovenia, which confirms Movia's status as organic winemaking since 2004. The vineyards, blessed with the unique microclimate of the Slovenian Brda, are cultivated with biodynamic preparations and avoid the use of chemical fertilizers. Movia advocates the use of indigenous yeasts for fermentation, uses no additives in the winery and employing steam for cellar cleaning, ensuring that the water is returned to nature uncontaminated.

Movia cultivating all its grapes across 25 hectares, all of which are dry-farmed and hand-harvested, emphasizing the winery's commitment to sustainability and quality. With an annual production of approximately 130,000 bottles, Movia not only preserves the legacy of its rich past but also sets new standards in the present, crafting wines that are a pure expression of their environment and a reflection of the soul.
